Job Opening: Development Director

 The Northwestern Lehigh Educational Foundation is seeking a Development Director (DD) to serve as the point of contact for all Foundation programs, with a major emphasis on fundraising efforts. The DD will collaborate with the Board of Directors officers to meet annual budgetary goals, oversee the overall strategic and operational responsibility for NWLEF for programs as well as serve as a Foundation liaison, promoting the Foundation’s mission within the community and school district.


The DD is an at-will, part-time salaried position with a flexible schedule. The Development Director will spend an average of 16 hours each week working on NWLEF activities, with at least 4 hours per week working in the school district administrative office building. The DD is also required to attend all NWLEF board meetings and be present at all NWLEF events, grant administration and fundraisers. The DD will ensure a presence in each of the Northwestern Lehigh schools monthly as well as attend parent group organization meetings.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

Fundraising and Administration of Grants: (60%)

  • Oversee the annual giving program to include current donors as well as evaluating other possible revenue generating and planned giving opportunities 
  • Provide oversight and organizational support for all fundraising events, including the school district employee giving campaign, 5k tiger run, golf tournament, sporting clay shoot, annual sponsor appreciation event and any other special events.
  • Act as the primary contact and administrator for the grant and endowment process to secure funding from the corporate and private sectors.
  • Prepare and submit grant reports to the Board, corporate, and private supporters as well as the state educational department; when necessary.
  • Maintain and report on all financials for Foundation’s fundraising events.


Public Relations and Communications: (20%)

  • Work with Board committee chairs to identify and recruit volunteers to serve on board committees.
  • Prepare and share presentations to the school district, parent group organizations, local/regional businesses, and potential corporate donors and sponsors to increase awareness of the Foundation’s mission and existence. 
  • Develop and ensure ongoing communication with the community organizations for partnership opportunities.
  • Deepen and refine all aspects of communication including the development and publishing of articles for the Foundation and school district newsletters.


Administration: (15%)

  • Create and maintain the Foundation’s fundraising and relationship management software including donor gift and event sponsor entry, thank you acknowledgement, end of year Annual Report mailing as well as ongoing communication to build and maintain sponsor relations. 
  • Prepare and present summary report at each board meeting outlining YTD performance versus goal.


Strategic Planning and Alignment: (5%)

  • Research and identify potential major donors to include alumni, private foundations, corporations, and local businesses.
  • Work with the Board to generate a 3-year strategic plan. This plan will be evaluated and revised on an annual basis.
  • Establish a local and regional presence that publishes and communicates program results with an emphasis on successes as a model for regional national replication. 

Qualifications:

The DD will be thoroughly committed to the NWLEF’s mission and values. All candidates should have proven leadership, fundraising and relationship management experience.


Specific requirements include:

  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent work experience, preferably in nonprofit development, sales and /or marketing;
  • Strong fundraising, event planning and public relations experience with the ability to engage a wide range of stakeholders;
  • Outstanding written and verbal communication skills;
  • Ability to work effectively in collaboration with diverse groups of people;
  • Positive attitude, action-oriented, and self-directed;
  • Organized with an attention to detail and able to work independently;
  • Proficient with Word, Excel, Power Point and Google Apps;
  • Fundraising and relationship management software experience, preferred;
  • Willingness to work flexibly, generally having a standard work week, but, also, be able to work some evenings and weekends to accommodate Foundation activities and represent the Foundation at events outside the normal work week.
  • Graphic design experience is a plus.

Goal Setting and Evaluation:

An evaluation / review meeting will be held after 90 days to objectively discuss both the position as the reviewer sees it, and the Foundation. Annually thereafter.
