The Northwestern Lehigh Educational Foundation (NWLEF) is a 501(c)3 nonprofit that has invested over $2.1 million to fund programs beyond the public school budget. From classroom experiences to technology, every NWLSD student has benefited. NWLEF ensures learning isn’t limited by funding—it’s fueled by possibility.
Pennsylvania ranks 45th in the country in the state's share of funding for public schools. Local school districts are forced to make up the difference, mostly through property taxes.
Charter school costs for NWLSD have almost TRIPLED over a 10-year period, from $652,000 to over $1.9 million.
The mandated costs of special education, pensions, and charter payments grew by $90 million for Lehigh County districts, while State funding grew by just $21 million.
A strong educational foundation not only empowers individual students but also uplifts the entire community by creating future leaders, innovators, and compassionate citizens.
Through our Teacher Mini-Grant program we
foster innovation in the classroom (and hallways). Each year NWLEF allocates a certain amount of funds to be awarded to individual or groups of teachers who apply for grants that enhance student learning.
NWLEF has supported our school district with
key technology purchases including SmartBoards
for all classrooms, STEM labs and broadcasting studios for each building, and laptops for all students. These major initiatives would not have been possible without the support of our local community!
The district has seen a greater need for mental health support to help students succeed. NWLEF supports specific requests from our district to address the needs of our students through programs led by our counselors and administrators within the district.
